(McLean, VA) January 15, 2019 - GeoScienceWorld (GSW) is pleased to announce the addition of the journal GeoArabia archive (1996 – 2015) and special publications to its domain-leading collection of Earth science research on the Silverchair Platform. A quarterly peer-reviewed journal covering petroleum geoscience in the Middle East, GeoArabia was published by Gulf Petrolink in Bahrain from 1996 to 2015. The new content is now publically available on the GSW platform under Creative Commons license (CC-BY-NC).

“We are thrilled to host the entire electronic library of Gulf PetroLink’s journal, GeoArabia. The content’s regional focus will be of value and meaningful interest to academic and industry researchers internationally,” said Alix Vance, CEO of GeoScienceWorld. “This content addition will expand the scope of our already robust offerings and will help introduce new users to the GSW platform.”

“It is a great pleasure to donate GeoArabia's electronic library to GeoScienceWorld. As a non-profit organization, GSW will ensure that GeoArabia’s articles and special publications will remain available to the geoscience community far into the future,” said Dr. Moujahed Al-Husseini, Owner of Gulf PetroLink and Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, GeoArabia. "The platform’s innovative tools and search and discovery capabilities will provide unique value for GeoArabia’s readers and researchers.”

Scholars and professionals accessing the GeoArabia content will benefit from GSW’s comprehensive and consolidated research experience. Distinctive features of the site include: split screen display that allows users to scroll the journal article and its figures simultaneously; an integrated map-based search experience using GeoRef bounding coordinate data to discover content globally and narrow results to specific regions or locations; search results that include figures and extract views; and a re-conceptualized treatment of GeoRef Thesaurus keywords for better surfacing of related content.

About Gulf PetroLink, GeoArabia, and Dr. M. Al-Husseini

Dr. M. Al-Husseini joined Saudi Aramco in 1976 after completing his PhD in Earth Science at Brown University in 1975 and a one-year Research Fellowship at the University of Colorado, Boulder. In 1992 he left Saudi Aramco, where he was the Exploration Manager, and founded Bahrain-based Gulf PetroLink (GPL) in order to promote petroleum geoscience and technology exchange across the Middle East. In 1994 GPL took on its first publishing challenge: the 2-volume, 840 page Proceedings of GEO 1994, the first Middle East Geoscience Conference. GPL launched GeoArabia at the GEO 1996 Conference and organized the biennial GEO 2000, 2002 and 2004 conferences. Between 1996 and 2015 GeoArabia published nearly 350 peer-reviewed articles, many 100s of GEO conference abstracts as well as several special publications. Since 2016 GPL has developed new interpretation techniques in orbital-tuning of stratigraphy recently published in September 2018 as Chapter 5: Arabian Orbital Sequences (Volume 3 of Stratigraphy and Timescales edited by Dr. Michael Montenari).
