An event series exploring the technologies & strategies that support professional & scholarly knowledge
Over the last three years, the Platform Strategies virtual event series has expanded to reach hundreds of attendees each year. In 2023, we’re excited to offer the best of both worlds, with a virtual series of Strategies Spotlights along with the return of the in-person Platform Strategies event, September 27th in Washington, DC. Registration for the in-person event will open in May.
The Strategies Spotlights offer case studies from publishers and partners around key industry challenges. This virtual series will cover everything from content conversion and metadata to new content types and the needs of modern learners.

Content hosting platforms offer many sophisticated features to users – including advanced tagging & discoverability, personalization, and the ability to display large quantities of data. Translating all that to a mobile experience, however, can be a challenge. Over the last year, McGraw Hill has collaborated with platform provider Silverchair and app developer WillowTree to create an app that delivers a variety of content types in a way that is seamless and easily referenced by a mobile user. Currently featuring everything from books and videos to infographics and diagnostic tools, iterative updates to the app will offer additional bidirectional syncing between app and web, affinities-powered recommendations, and Q+A content experiences. Join us for a case study on key considerations for hosting content off-site, managing multi-stakeholder collaborations, and identifying key format differences in user expectations and experience.

Even with recent strides in technology, moving decades of content onto a new platform is a major undertaking. The details involved with simply collecting every digital file in a publisher’s portfolio are daunting. Which means that analyzing and updating an entire library that dates back more than 90 years can feel insurmountable. Join AIP Publishing, Silverchair, and Data Conversion Laboratory as they discuss the details around the largest platform migration in Silverchair’s history—47.4 gigabytes of XML, 1.73 terabytes of assets ,1.1 million files, 29.4 million MathML formulae analyzed and updated, and 36 million reference citations all structured to the latest iteration of JATS. Hear from collaborators about the keys to their success, lessons learned, and tips for others looking to migrate or update their complex content.
