First-of-its kind technology platform enables dynamic and engaging curriculum to standardize the baseline knowledge for orthopaedic resident training

AAOS & Silverchair

(Charlottesville, VA) April 5, 2022 – Silverchair, the leading technology partner to scholarly and professional publishers, announced the recent launch of the new Resident Orthopaedic Core Knowledge Program (ROCK) from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the world’s largest medical association of musculoskeletal specialists.

Guided by AAOS’s mission to serve the orthopaedic profession to provide the highest quality musculoskeletal care, the ROCK is one of the most comprehensive and customizable digital learning platforms available to U.S. residency programs. The knowledge-based program provides in-depth resources utilizing the latest technology, research, and educational materials to empower the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.

Featuring a clean, modern interface tailored to the needs of its users, the ROCK provides individual views for residents with built-in personalization. It also helps residency program directors, department chairs, and faculty be more efficient with how they educate their residents based on real-time objective data.

“The ROCK is a robust online curriculum management product that will help AAOS fulfill its mission of being the preferred learning source for orthopaedic surgeons throughout their career,” said Thane Kerner, Silverchair CEO. “Silverchair has been actively engaged over the last decade with developing highly tailored digital education and certification products like the ROCK, helping organizations like the AAOS diversify its training resources. AAOS is now equipped with specialized software to meet the specific online needs of orthopaedic residency programs, alongside proven services and support from Silverchair.”

“The ROCK was designed to provide residents with a consistent baseline of core foundational knowledge aligned to meet their individual needs, while providing residency program directors with the flexibility to incorporate content at the depth, breadth, and timing necessary to achieve their program’s specific goals,” said AAOS Chief Commercial Officer Anna Salt Troise. “Together with Silverchair, we were able to create one of the most comprehensive and customizable digital learning platforms available to U.S. residency programs. The ROCK utilizes a technology platform to deliver a seamless and modern user experience with content that evolves as protocols change and discoveries are made.”

After a successful pilot program in 2021, the ROCK launched with full enrollment during the AAOS 2022 Annual Meeting in Chicago, March 22-26, 2022. The new curriculum launches with the Basic Science and Spine sections, with subsequent subspecialties scheduled to be released throughout 2022.
